Jane Street

Collaborative problem-solving with probability and game theory

Quant Research · Trading

Source confidence: Official + candidate reports · Last reviewed: 4 Jun 2026. Exact process varies by role, office, and year.

Jane Street interviews are collaborative problem-solving conversations, not finance quizzes — no finance background is required. Expect probability and expected-value puzzles, mental math, light market-making intuition, coding in any language, and betting/trading games. Interviewers often pose problems too hard to solve alone to see how you reason, use hints, and catch your own mistakes.
