Role-dependent: quant research, engineering, and trading tracks
Source confidence: Official + candidate reports · Last reviewed: 7 Sept 2026. Exact process varies by role, office, and year.
Citadel and Citadel Securities use role-dependent interview processes. Official campus guidance says Quant Research begins with a 45-60 minute remote technical and behavioral interview using CoderPad, followed by three to five 60-minute interviews. Campus Engineering begins with a 45-minute video interview and typically continues with three 45-minute interviews, with possible later leadership or team discussions. Public trading reports describe different quantitative and market-focused formats, so they should not be inferred from the QR or engineering process.
Interview Rounds
Interview processes vary by role, office, seniority, and year. We separate official company information from candidate reports and third-party guides.
Round 1:Campus Quant Research first round
A remote technical and behavioral interview covering programming, research ability, data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving process, with CoderPad used for coding.
Round 2:Campus Quant Research second round
Typically three to five interviews that go deeper on technical ability, research, problem solving, and fit.
Round 3:Campus Engineering interviews
An initial technical and behavioral video interview is typically followed by three interviews covering coding, data structures, algorithms, problem solving, and relevant experience.
Round 4:Leadership or team discussions
Official campus guidance describes possible later senior-engineer, leadership, or team-specific discussions depending on role and matching needs.
Round 5:Trading process (candidate-reported)
Citadel Securities trading candidates report quantitative assessments, probability, coding, and market-making content, but stages differ by role, office, and cycle.
